The objectives of the Maury County Library Board are to administer a public library system in Maury County which derives it's support from public funds and operates under the rules and regulations of the Buffalo River Regional Library and the laws of the State of Tennessee. It is also an objective of the Library Board to promote the welfare of the Maury County Library System and aid in the development of special services.
Board meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month (with the exception of December) at 5:30 p.m. inside the Columbia branch library unless otherwise specified. Meetings are open to the public and citizens are encouraged to attend.
The rules for public comments will be as follows: Members of the public wishing to speak must be recognized by the Chair, and will have 5 minutes to address the Board. If action is needed base on public comment, it will be added to the agenda as new business for the next scheduled meeting.

Maury County Public Library Board By-Laws Article I: Name
The name of this organization shall be "The Maury County Library Board."
Article II: Objectives
The objectives of the Maury County Library Board are to administer a public library system in Maury County which derives its support from public funds and operates under the rules and regulations of the Buffalo River Regional Library and the laws of the State of Tennessee. It is also an objective of the Library Board to promote the welfare of the Maury County Library System and to aid in the development of special services.
Article III: Membership
The membership of the Maury County Library Board shall consist of the seven members appointed by the Maury County Commission. Three members shall be from the City of Columbia, one member shall be from the City of Mt. Pleasant, and three members shall be from Maury County at-large. Each member is appointed for a three-year term. Board openings will be publicly announced and anyone wishing an appointment to the board will be required to submit an application to the board by the January meeting. If any member has three unexcused absences in a board year, they will be notified and their name may be referred to the County Commission. The Chairman shall make the determination of what constitutes an excused or unexcused absence.
The ex-officio members shall be the two Maury County Representatives on the Buffalo River Regional Library Board and one ex-officio member shall be an elected member of the County Commission, selected from the Admin Committee, who will serve as a liaison between the Board and Commission. The Maury County Mayor, Mayor of Columbia and Mt. Pleasant are, by default, ex-officio members. Ex- officio members may attend meetings in an advisory role, but are non-voting members and do not determine a quorum.
Article IV: Officers and Duties
The officers of the Board shall be elected annually at a called meeting to be held in April following the County Commission meeting. The officers shall be elected annually from duly appointed members of the Board, by majority vote of the membership. The officers shall be: Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and Secretary.
The Chairman shall preside at all meetings, shall have general supervision of the activities of the Board. The Chairman may appoint such committees as necessary or advisable to carry out the objectives of the Board. The Chairman shall be an ex-officio member of all committees.
The Vice-Chairman shall, in the absence or incapacity of the Chairman, perform the duties of the Chairman.
The Secretary shall oversee all records, including the membership roll and the recording of minutes.
Article V: Meetings and Notices
The Maury County Library Board may have a regular meeting on the fourth Tuesday of every month excluding December. Any meeting conflicting with a holiday may be rescheduled with the consent of the Board. Special meetings may be called provided each member is notified of the time, place, and the purpose of the meeting at least five (5) days in advance of the said date. A quorum shall consist of four or more of the duly appointed members of the Board. The proceedings of all meetings shall be governed by Robert's Rules of Order.
Article VI: Amendments
Any of these by-laws may be altered, amended, or repealed at any regular meeting of the Maury County Public Library Board by a majority of all duly appointed members of the Board, provided that by the time of such a meeting, a proposed amendment or repeal has been presented, in writing, to each member of the Board at least five (5) days prior to the date of such meetings.
